The Radio Controlled Electric Powered Helicopter is one of the most popular RC helicopters in the Hobby today. Many manufacturers have found that the usage of carbon fiber has lightened up the weight of the EP helicopter. One of the best places to use carbon fiber in RC helicopters is the frame. I recently found a 450 size RC helicopter with carbon fiber frame to be much lighter and even stronger that the like helicopter with an aluminum frame. There are many composite materials being used in full size helicopters and there usage is a welcome addition to the electric powered radio controlled helicopters.

One of the greatest advantages of the use of carbon fiber is the strength of the parts, they now resist bending better than aluminum parts. Not only is the strength a great feature but the addition strength also comes with a big weight savings. Lighter is always better with any helicopter.  Take a look at the new Carbon fiber framed helicopters and to see the difference.  I know you will be able to feel the difference when you fly them.

The History of the RC Helicopter

While remote control cars are a favorite among any RC enthusiast, there is also a lot of interest in RC helicopters. Newcomers to the hobby should be aware, however, that helicopters tend to be a bit more complicated in terms of putting the product together as well as flying. To learn the history of electric RC helicopters, it is necessary to learn the more general history of helicopters. This began as far back as Leonardo da Vinci, who experimented with aircrafts bearing rotary wings.

But successful manned flight wasn’t until the 1930s, and it wasn’t until 1941 that the first helicopter was built. This was accomplished by Igor Sikorsky. And it wasn’t long before RC enthusiasts converted the real life product into a model version. Built in West Germany, the first RC helicopter was built in 1968. And ever since, the models have continued to improve. Becoming more and more advanced, RC helicopters are now common among toy stores and purveyors of electric remote control products.

Helicopter rides are a huge part of the tourist industry in many places across the world. Some of the most notable locations are the Grand Canyon and Hawaii. Tourists can experience the gaping chasm of the Grand Canyon up close and personal with a helicopter ride, as you lower towards the bottom for a thrilling ride. And helicopters offer a truly unique experience because they offer this intimate experience as well as a more general overhead view. On the Hawaiian front, you can get this close and distant view of waterfalls, rainforests, and ocean scenery.

The only downside with these tours is that they’re not exactly wallet friendly. That is to say, they are usually extremely expensive. And unless you’re taking a helicopter trip in a foreign country where you receive a favorable exchange rate, it can simply not be feasible for many people. But if you still want to experience helicopters for a lot less cost, just look into purchasing a remote control helicopter. You won’t get to know what the ride itself feels like, but you will get the thrill of being the pilot. And that’s not something you can get out of any helicopter tour!

RC helicopter piloting is one of the most enjoyable activities in the RC world, but there are a few safety precautions every pilot needs to know.  First of all, it’s important to check wind conditions in the area; sometimes it can feel like it’s not windy on the ground because it’s a sheltered area, when in actuality there can be a strong current twenty or thirty feet above.  It’s also important to fly in an open area away from rooftops, trees, and power lines.  Make sure you don’t let your electric RC helicopter get too far away from you, even if the range of the radio allows it.  You should also be aware of other RC helicopter or airplanes in the area (though depending on where you are this can be quite uncommon).

Taking these safety precautions will ensure an enjoyable and safe RC helicopter experience.  If you are piloting near trees, even if it’s just a few shorter ones, always be prepared to climb; a boat hook can also be an invaluable tool.

If you have been flying RC airplanes, why don’t you try flying RC helicopters for a change.  They are fun to watch and fly differently than the planes.  You can now have a collection of RC aircrafts to fly with your friends. You can even find exact replicas of famous models of helicopters.  They are made of the best and lightest materials so you can spend hours on end flying them.  Just make sure that your batteries are charged and ready to go.  You don’t want to go home early because of dead batteries.  Just make sure that you have spare batteries on hand or have a couple of rechargeable batteries that are topped up already.

rc helicopters

When shopping for toys for the big boys, those rc toys always top the list of must-haves. An RC helicopter is a good choice for boys aged 10 onwards. This is the awkward stage and it is usually difficult to find gifts for kids this age.

Of course, it will help if there will be a guardian to assist and help the kid when assembling the parts of the chopper. Some RC helicopters are great for beginners because they are easy to assemble and easy to maneuver.

electric RC helicopter

I got an RC helicopter for my son and daughter and we have never been closer.  They can’t wait for the weekend when they get to hang out with dad and we learn new tricks on the helicopter together.  My son accomplished a tail spin yesterday and never got it to stick.  We will try again next weekend though and one day he’ll get it right and feel the pride that comes with finding a hobby and being the best at it.
